In a generous act of academic service, Dr. Jeremias Navarro Perez, a newly hired Ph.D. professor of music at J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), has provided a copy of his doctoral dissertation to the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Library. The dissertation, titled “Selective Commodification as a Context for Sustaining Negrense Ata Cultural Performances, Philippines,” now serves as a valuable addition to the JHCSC’s growing collection of academic and cultural resources.
The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) Main Campus celebrated its 17th Cyberian Fest on May 2 at the campus gymnasium, with the theme “The Digital Leap: Transforming Learning with IT.” The four-day event was spearheaded by Cyberian Club Adviser Mr. Marvin Mejorada, with guidance from the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) Dean, Engr. Perla A. Rivera, and support from Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Vilma C. Grengia.
JHCSC President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales participated in the National Innovation Day 2025 held from April 28 to 30 at Novotel Manila, Araneta City, Quezon City. The event carried the theme “FLIP: Forging Leaders of Innovation in the Philippines” and was conducted in line with Section 27 of Republic Act No. 11293 or the Philippine Innovation Act, which promotes public awareness and support for innovation while recognizing key milestones of both government and private sector efforts.
The second-year Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) showcased their culinary expertise and service skills through a Filipino-themed breakfast catering event held on May 2, 2025, at the J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) Pagadian Campus-hostel. The event was a practical final examination for their course HM 113: Fundamentals in Food Service Operations under Professor Llanevie Azel Niez.
With pride and celebration in the air, the JHCSC Laboratory High School held its 8th Moving-Up Ceremony for the Junior High School Class of 2025 on April 30, 2025, at the JHCSC Main Campus Gymnasium in Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur. Carrying the theme “Henerasyon ng Pagkakaisa: Kaagapay sa Bagong Pilipinas” (Generation of Unity: Partners for the New Philippines), the ceremony signaled not just the end of the academic year but also the beginning of new aspirations for the thirty-four completers.
J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) proudly brought home 19 medals—7 Gold, 9 Silver, and 3 Bronze—from the National State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games 2025, held in Camiguin from April 22 to 27. Their outstanding performance was crucial in securing Region IX’s Top 5 overall ranking among the 16 competing regions.
The Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BSF) community JHCSC commemorated its first-ever Forestry Day 2025 with the theme “Forestry in Action: Cultivating Skills, Knowledge and Sustainability” on April 26, 2025, at the JHCSC Main Campus Gymnasium in Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur. Spearheaded by the Forestry Student Organization (FSO) officers under the leadership of President Mr. Dio Labadan and with the guidance of FSO Adviser Mrs. Rovana Jawani-Ramoncito, the event sought to promote forest stewardship while fostering a more profound love for the forests among aspiring forestry professionals.
Six faculty members from the School of Teacher Education (STE) of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), including Dr. Starr Clyde L. Sebial, STE Dean; Jezreel V. Verallo, Program Chair of BSED English; Dr. Ferlor Angel G. Rodriguez, BSED Science Faculty; and BEED faculty members Geraldine E. Rivera, Ruby G. Redoblado, and Juvie B. Sebial, successfully presented their research during the 2nd International Conference on Multicultural Education and Interdisciplinary Studies (ICMEIS) 2025. The conference, hosted by the Philippine Normal University Mindanao, was held at the Almont Hotel in Butuan City from April 23 to 25, 2025.
Representing Region IX, J.H. Cerilles State College continued to be a strong contender, with its athletes competing in various disciplines along with participants from 17 regions throughout the country. The ongoing events demonstrated the determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship of the athletes as they competed for wins and regional pride.
