Stronger & Bolder JHCSC for Quality Tertiary Education

The J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), conducted the Project Inception Meeting and Workshop for the research project titled “Optimizing Productivity and Profitability of ItikPINAS: A Sustainable Approach to Duck Farming in Zamboanga del Sur” on July 13–14, 2026, at the Hostel of the JHCSC–Pagadian Campus.

The Health Services Unit of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) successfully conducted a two-day Basic Life Support (BLS) Training at the JHCSC Hostel, Pagadian Campus, bringing together clinic personnel, health staff, selected faculty members, and employees for an intensive learning program on emergency response and life-saving interventions. Spearheaded by School Nurse Joanne Happy C. Hadjirul, RN, DM, the activity aimed to strengthen the institution’s emergency preparedness by equipping participants with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to respond effectively during life-threatening situations such as cardiac arrest, choking, respiratory failure, and other medical emergencies before advanced medical care becomes available.

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA), headed by Dr. Vilma C. Grengia, convened School Deans, Campus Academic Program Coordinators, Campus Registrars, Campus Librarians, and the Curriculum and Instruction Director for the Mid-Year Cascades 2026 at the Conference Room, 3rd Floor of the I.T. Building. The activity served as a platform to cascade the key outcomes of the recently concluded Mid-Year Evaluation, Catch-Up Planning, Strategic Plan Alignment, and University Conversion Compliance Workshop, and reinforce the institution’s strategic direction toward universityhood.

The J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) hosted the Calendar Year 2026 Second Quarter Meeting and Member Institutional Visit of the Zamboanga Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development Consortium (ZIEERDeC), led by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) through the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office IX (DOST IX), at the JHCSC–Pagadian Extension Campus Conference Room on June 30, 2026, led by ZIEERDeC Consortium Director Dr. Marvin A. Maulion, who presided over the institutional visit and the second quarter meeting. The activity gathered representatives from member higher education institutions (HEIs) and state universities and colleges (SUCs) to strengthen research collaboration and advance regional innovation initiatives.

Furthermore, the College clinched a historic spot among the 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝟒 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥, securing a massive cumulative lifetime total of 64 Scopus-indexed outputs. This landmark achievement reflects the institution’s unstoppable momentum toward global research excellence, innovation, and strategic academic engagement.

The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) successfully conducted a two-day seminar-workshop titled “Crafting Quality Educational Research: A Seminar-Workshop on Designing and Writing Mixed Methods and Qualitative Studies” on July 4–5, 2026, at Chandler Suites, Pagadian City. The activity brought together graduate students from various academic programs to strengthen their knowledge and skills in designing and writing qualitative and mixed methods research through expert lectures and hands-on proposal workshops.

The proposed Doctor of Philosophy in English Language Teaching (PhD-ELT) program generated strong interest among students of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) during a presentation and stakeholders’ consultation held on July 5, 2026, at Chandler Suites, Pagadian City. The initiative was presented by Dr. Sarah Jean B. Bayocot, BSEd and MAEd English Program Chair of the School of Teacher Education (STE) and one of the program’s proponents. The proposal seeks to address the growing demand for advanced graduate education among English-language educators, researchers, curriculum specialists, and educational leaders in Region IX and neighboring areas by offering a specialized, accessible doctoral program.

As part of the 27th Commencement Exercises of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), the Dumingag Campus held its graduation ceremony on June 16, 2026. Guided by the theme, “JHCSC Future-Ready Graduates as Drivers in Advancing A.C.H.I.E.V.E. for Global Excellence,” the ceremony recognized the perseverance, dedication, and accomplishments of 988 graduates who completed their respective academic programs.

June 5, 2026, was an ordinary day for some, but for the graduands of the School of Teacher Education (STE) of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) Main Campus, it was a day filled with pride, gratitude, and celebration. The institution beamed with joy during the Tribute to Parents and Recognition Rites 2026, held under the theme “From Dreams to Destiny: Honoring the Pillars of Our Success.”

On June 6, 2026, the JHCSC School of Law came together for its first-ever Seniors’ Night, a memorable occasion that celebrated not only academic achievement but also the perseverance, sacrifice, and determination that shaped every member of the graduating class.
