Stronger & Bolder JHCSC for Quality Tertiary Education

The School of Business and Management (SBM) of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) successfully hosted the 8th General Membership Caravan on Halal Concepts and the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) on August 28–29, 2025, at the JHCSC-HRM Hostel. With the theme “Advancing Halal and Filipino Brand of Service Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality: Elevating Global Standards and Opportunities,” the two-day caravan gathered educators, industry practitioners, and stakeholders from across the Zamboanga Peninsula to promote collaboration and global competitiveness in the tourism and hospitality sector.

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Resource Generation (OVPRERG), headed by Dr. Jerry B. Superales with Prof. Ruel S. Lasagas, Research Director, and Dr. Joel M. Sabellano Jr., Extension Services Director, led its annual two-day in-house review of research and extension project proposals on August 26–27, 2025, at the New Roxan Hotel, Pagadian City. The activity aimed to ensure that proposed studies are aligned with the institution’s research agenda, priority thrusts, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with participation from faculty researchers and extensionists from the Main, Pagadian, CSME, and Dumingag campuses.

The J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) filled the air with excitement during the Mobile Sports Festival for Employees Championship Games on August 29, 2025, at the Main Campus, as part of the institution’s 24th Founding Anniversary celebration. The event was spearheaded by the Main Campus Event Management Team (EMT), under the guidance of Main Campus Sports In-Charge, Prof. Ruel S. Lasagas, with the support of Main Campus Director Dr. Trinidad C. Abapo and the leadership initiative of JHCSC President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales. The festival provided a venue for employees to showcase athletic talent while promoting camaraderie, wellness, and teamwork.

J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) participated in the 2nd International Research Conference on Culture, Arts, and Sports (IRCCAS), held on August 27–29, 2025, at the Summit Galleria Hotel in Cebu City, where its faculty members and a graduate student presented research across various thematic streams, reflecting innovation, preservation, and interdisciplinary approaches.

The J.H. Cerilles State College–School of Graduate Studies (JHCSC-SGS) held its orientation program for new graduate students on August 23, 2025, at the JHCSC Dumingag Campus Library. The activity gathered enrollees in the Master of Arts in Education and Master of Agricultural Development programs, along with SGS faculty members and staff from key student service offices.

The four-day JHCSC Sports Festival 2025 opened with vibrant energy for employees and students, supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) through the initiatives of Senator Pia S. Cayetano and Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara. Held from August 27 to 30, 2025, at the Main Campus Gymnasium in Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur, the event was one of the highlights of JHCSC’s 24th Founding Anniversary celebration under the leadership of President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales and Sports Director Dr. Buena D. Calunsag.

In line with its 24th Founding Anniversary celebration, JHCSC launched the pilot episode of KAPEHAN on August 18, 2025, at the JHCSC Hostel, Pagadian City Extension Campus. The talk show was hosted by Dr. Jeremias N. Perez in collaboration with the Information and Public Affairs Office (IPAO) and the Event Management Team Pagadian, headed by Dr. Patricia D. Bahian, Pagadian Campus Director. With the theme “Pagtinabangay Alang sa Malungtaron nga Kalamboan sa Edukasyon ug Serbisyo Publiko,” the program was introduced to serve as a venue for institutional dialogue and stronger partnerships with local government units.

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs of JHCSC, headed by Dr. Vilma C. Grengia with the support of President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, spearheaded the first-ever One Vision, One Community: Academe-Industry-LGU Summit 2025 on August 18, 2025, at the JHCSC Hostel, Pagadian City Extension Campus. The event was held in line with JHCSC’s 24th Founding Anniversary celebration and gathered representatives from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), National Line Agencies, Local Government Units (LGUs), CHED officials, members of the Board of Trustees, and JHCSC key officials.

The Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) program held its 5th Pinning and Send-off Ceremony on August 15, 2025, at the Gift Pavilion, Rizal Avenue, Lumbia District, Pagadian City. With the theme “Strength and Unity Across Generations Using Wisdom, Skill, and Care for Maintaining Human Well-Being,” the ceremony marked an important milestone for the graduating social work students as they embark on their practicum journey. The activity was spearheaded by BSSW Program Coordinator, Mrs. Khenny B. Colocar, with the support of the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, represented by Ms. Febe Keith Jumoc, Director for Curriculum and Instruction.

The J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) hosted its Alumni Night on August 16, 2025, at the Main Campus Gymnasium, bringing together graduates from the batches of 1996 to 2024. The gathering was spearheaded by JHCSC Alumni President, Hon. Glendell I. Oyo-a, with the goal of fostering fellowship among alumni and celebrating the institution’s legacy.
