The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), under the leadership of Dean Dr. Patricia D. Bahian, held its Annual Research Colloquium on May 31, 2025, at the BSIT Building Conference Room, Pagadian City Extension Campus. The event brought together internal and external panel evaluators, college key officials, as well as SGS presenters, students, faculty members, and assigned staff. It encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration and promoted a culture of research excellence and innovation within the institution.
Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, JHCSC President, served as the distinguished evaluator. โHope that we can sustain this research colloquium and duplicate this one to undergraduate students,โ he said in his message. He also shared plans to invite representatives from various National Government Agencies (NGAs) to participate in the next research colloquium as potential sponsors, funders of future research, and partners of JHCSC.
Aside from President Rosales, there were 14 panel members, including three external experts: Dr. Lee G. Baraquia, Education Program Supervisor for Research Policy, Planning, and Research Development; Dr. Rainerio M. Salomes, Education Program Supervisor in Mathematicsโboth from the Department of Education, Regional Office IX (DepEd ROIX); and Ms. Nenita M. Bincal, MA, Principal of Pagadian Golden School Learning Center.
Thirty-eight (38) graduate students presented their research and received vital feedback from the assigned evaluators. The presentations were divided into two sessions. Group A, which included Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) majors in English (13) and Filipino (10), was presented in the College Library. Group B, consisting of MAEd majors in Educational Administration (1) and Mathematics (3), Master of Science in Environmental Resources Management (MSERM) (6), and Master of Agricultural Development (MAgDev) (5) students, presented in the Conference Room.
As part of the recognition of outstanding research work, the colloquium also awarded the Best Paper Presenters in each graduate program. For the MAEd, the awardees were Donna Faye T. Yrog-irog (Educational Administration), Jozyl M. Bigcas (Mathematics), Divine V. Bibanco (English), and Shirmae R. Mayol (Filipino). In the other programs, Cheezy Kate B. Credo was named Best Paper Presenter for the MSERM, while Reizel C. Hongoy received the same distinction for the MAgDev.
This yearโs colloquium marked the second time the event was held since being institutionalized as an annual academic activity themed โAdvancing Knowledge, Shaping Solutions: Research for a Resilient and Inclusive Future.โ It continues to provide a valuable platform for graduate students to showcase their research outputs and innovative projects.
Soar high, J.H. Cerilles State College!
