To empower J.H. Cerilles State College student media with vital skills and knowledge in broadcasting, news writing, photography, videography and video editing, and graphic layouts, the JHCSC PULSE Team, led by IPAO Director Mr. Homer T. Lao, organized a 2-day training with the theme, “Sharpening Skills, Amplifying Voices,” starting today, July 30, 2024, at New Roxan Hotel Function Hall, Pagadian City.
Mrs. Bemia Snooky A. Beboso, JHCSC’s Supervising Administrative Officer (SAO), opened the training workshop with inspiring remarks. She acknowledged the participants’ dedication and commended the IPAO for spearheading this initiative in collaboration with Student Publication Advisers.
Each campus student publication has six representatives, accompanied by their respective advisers: Mrs. Jezreel V. Verallo for Main and Pagadian Annex (The Journey), Mrs. Jackie J. Valderrama for Dumingag (The Insider), and Mrs. Celemin B. Cuajotor for Lakewood (The Heights Courier).
On the first day of the training, participants heard from distinguished guest lecturers: Atty. Romylyn O. Regidor, JHCSC School of Law, discussing “Media Laws and Ethical Considerations in Journalism” and Mr. Gideon C. Corgue, MPA, MT, MAED, Broadcast Journalist/News Writer, RMN DXPR, covering “Introduction to Broadcasting, Key Elements of News Writing.”
During the afternoon session, the Information and Public Affairs Office staff lectured on integrated news writing and broadcasting. Also, they provided breakaway training in photography, videography and video editing, and graphic layouts.
This training will end tomorrow, and the primary purpose is to prepare the student publication in collaboration with IPAO to cover the upcoming Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools (MASTS) event, which JHCSC will host this September 2024.
Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, the JHCSC president, fully supports this kind of initiative to inspire student media to keep promoting the public image of JHCSC in traditional and digital media. -EMP
