JHCSC conducts 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

The J.H. Cerilles State College under the leadership of President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales actively participated in the 4th Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on November 9, 2023. The chosen theme, “JHCSC Sabay-sabay tayong mag Duck, Cover, and Hold dahil Bida and Handa,” reflects the emphasis on unity and preparedness within the JHCSC community.

According to Mr. Jerry R. Redoblado from the JHCSC Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) Office, the drill aimed to enhance earthquake preparedness and resilience among the JHCSC community. The focus on the “big one,” a worst-case earthquake scenario, demonstrates a proactive approach to disaster preparedness.

The collaborative efforts of faculty members, staff, and students from all JHCSC campuses in executing the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” technique and the subsequent evacuation of buildings highlight the importance of coordinated responses in emergency situations. The evaluation of emergency response capabilities adds a crucial aspect to the drill, ensuring that the institution is well-prepared to handle unforeseen events.

The strategic division of locations for the drill, such as the High School Ground, Maceda Ground, and SAFES Plaza, showcases a tailored approach to different academic units, optimizing the effectiveness of the exercise.

The message from JHCSC VPAA Dr. Vilma C. Grengia underscores the significance of such drills in preparing for potential disasters. The commitment to educating and empowering faculty, staff, and students on proper responses and preventive measures aligns with the principle that safety and security are shared responsibilities.

Participating in the NSED not only strengthens the resilience of the institution but also contributes to the nationwide effort led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to enhance citizens’ awareness and disaster preparedness. Kudos to J.H. Cerilles State College for its dedication to the safety and well-being of its community members!
