The Indigenous People’s Month Culmination Program organized by JH Cerilles State College, under the theme “Pagpapayaman ng Pamanang Kultural at Katutubong Yaman tungo sa mas Maliwanang na Kinabukasan para sa Bagong Pilipinas,” was successfully held on November 10, 2023, at the College Gymnasium, JHCSC Main Campus, Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.
Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, the President of JH Cerilles State College, led the event and emphasized the importance of celebrating the national indigenous people’s month.
In his message, President Rosales highlighted the significance of the celebration in acknowledging and preserving the rich heritage and culture of the indigenous community. He emphasized the unique beauty and serenity that the indigenous cultures bring to the nation and how they contribute to building communities in nation-building.
As part of the program, various competitions were held, including the Dahon Fashion Show, Tribal Dance, and Malong Fashion Shows, showcasing the talents and cultural expressions of the students. President Rosales also performed a song serenade that captivated the audience.
The event featured Julius L. Mabini, the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) Provincial Director of Davao de Oro and Zamboanga del Sur, as the invited guest speaker. Mr. Mabini praised the college’s initiative in giving significance to the Indigenous People (IP) community and commemorating its importance in the country.
Among the notable attendees were VPAA Dr. Vilma C. Grengia, VPRERG Dr. Jerry B. Superales, the organizer Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Jonno E. Tan, and BOT Trustee/SSC Federated President Hon. Wendel Ragusta Jr. Additionally, school officials, deans, faculty, staff, and students were present to witness and participate in the program. The College’s commitment to honoring and preserving the cultural heritage of the indigenous communities was evident in the successful culmination of the Indigenous People’s Month celebration.
