JHCSC School of Graduate Studies(SGS) Dumingag Campus Graduate Students’ Orientation

On the sunny afternoon of October 28, 2023, the J.H. Cerilles State College, Dumingag Campus, hosted a Graduate Students’ Orientation. The event took place at the JHCSC-Dumingag Campus Audio-Visual Room (AVR) and was well-attended by eager MAED (Master of Arts in Education) and MAGDEV (Master of Agricultural Development) students. The orientation aimed to welcome the graduate students to the School of Graduate studies, introduce them to the esteemed faculty members, provide them essential information of the different services the school offers and ensure they were well informed about the important institutional policies.

Dr. Vilma C. Grengia, the esteemed Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), graced the gathering with her warm and inspiring welcome remarks. Her words resonated with the students, who were captivated by her insights into the significance of their academic journey at JHCSC.

An integral part of the orientation was the introduction of the SGS students as well as the SGS staff and faculty, who would be instrumental in guiding the students throughout their academic pursuits. Dr. Jefrey P. Villaver, represented the Master of Agricultural Development (MAGDEV) program. This is followed by Ms. Haidee F. Patalinghug, who presented the MAED program students, faculty and staff.

Dr. Patricia DJ. Bahian, the SGS Dean, emphasized the importance of the Graduate Student Manual, explaining the rules and retention policies that every graduate student should be aware of. It was underscored that each student’s responsibility was to understand the provisions of the manual and uphold the values cherished by JHCSC.

She also highlighted guidelines and standards concerning grades and evaluation of student records. Dr. Vilma C. Grengia, VPAA, then introduced the Vision, Mission, Goals, and Objectives of JHCSC. She provided crucial updates on the accreditation status of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) and offered invaluable insights into school fees and thesis fees. Her inspiring words motivated and encouraged the graduate students, setting the tone for their academic journey.

The orientation continued with Ms. Erma S. Ambalong, the Dumingag Campus Librarian, who enlightened the students about the extensive library services and online resources available to support their research and academic needs. Ms. Venus M. Avenido, a Registered Guidance Counselor and MAED Faculty member, provided insight into the Guidance and Counseling Services through a video presentation, showcasing the valuable support system in place for students.

An open forum was also conducted to accommodate students’ queries. The closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Teonita Y. Velasco, the Dean of the School of Agriculture, Fisheries, Environmental Sciences (SAFES). Dr. Velasco reiterated the significance of the graduate students’ academic journey at JHCSC and left them with words of encouragement and motivation as they embarked on this new phase of their education.

Part 2 of the orientation was the election of the SGS Student Council. This was also successfully done. The Graduate Students’ Orientation at J.H. Cerilles State College, Dumingag Campus, on October 28, 2023, was a success. It not only provided essential information to the students but also fostered a sense of belonging and inspired them to strive for excellence in their academic journey.
