The J.H. Cerilles State College – School of Teacher Education (JHCSC-STE) successfully conducted the second session of its Research Capability Building Seminar Workshop Series for Department of Education (DepEd) teachers in San Miguel on March 22, 2025, at the E-Center, Poblacion, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.
The initiative is part of the Adopt-a-District Extension Program (ADEP) under the TABANGE Framework of the JHCSC Community Extension and Services Office (CESO). The project is spearheaded by Ms. Juvie B. Sebial, with strong support from CESO Director Prof. Ricky A. Egos and the visionary leadership of JHCSC President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales.
The event also welcomed a distinguished guest, Dr. Juvy Empalmado, District Supervisor of DepEd-San Miguel, who delivered an insightful message emphasizing the importance of research in education.
The session began with a review of the first seminar-workshop, held on October 9, 2024, at the same venue. Mr. Jerome S. Afable, EdD, Principal of Concepcion Elementary School, led the recap of key topics from the previous session, ensuring continuity and reinforcing foundational concepts for participants.
Dr. Starr Clyde L. Sebial, Dean of the School of Teacher Education, served as the keynote speaker for the session. He opened his talk by sharing a quote from The Emperor’s Club (2002): “Great ambition and conquest without contribution is without significance.” He further inspired the participants by recounting his own journey in research, highlighting the impact of scholarly work on professional and academic growth.
The focal point of Seminar-Workshop Series Session 2 was “Unsaon ang Panukiduki? Understanding Research Methodologies of Basic and Action Research.” Dr. Sebial delved into key topics, including Research Designs and Questions (Basic and Action Research) and Innovation, Intervention, and Strategy in Action Research, providing valuable insights for educators seeking to enhance their research capabilities.
This initiative reflects JHCSC-STE’s commitment to enhancing the research competencies of DepEd teachers, equipping them with the necessary skills to conduct meaningful studies that advance education. Additionally, it reaffirms the institution’s dedication to fostering a culture of research and professional development within the teaching community.
Soar high, J.H. Cerilles State College!
