The School of Law (SOL) at JHCSC Pagadian Extension Campus conducted a seminar on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) under the theme “Breaking the Cycle of Abuse: Empowering Women and Children through R.A. 9262” On December 4, 2024 at the campus lobby. The event, part of the nationwide 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, was led by SOL Dean Atty. Romylyn O. Regidor, with the support of Mrs. Janniece L. Magsayo, Pagadian Annex DSA In-Charge, and Dr. Patricia D. Bahian, Campus Administrator, who represented the Office of the President under the leadership of Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales.
Key figures included Supervising Lawyer Atty. Glory Grace Obenza-Nodado and Atty. Esther Marie Ringon, BOT Secretary Designate. The seminar was attended by over 40 student leaders and participants, including members of the Supreme Student Council (SSC), School of Nursing (SON), School of Teacher Education (STE), School of Business and Management (SBM), fourth-year Clinical Education Program (CLEP) students, third-year Legal Form Students, and JHCSC staff from the registrar office.
The seminar covered essential topics such as the scope of Republic Act 9262, forms of VAWC, stakeholder roles, prevention and intervention strategies, and how to file complaints for VAWC. Participants engaged in an interactive session, sharing insights and real-life experiences. Atty. Obenza-Nodado answered questions during the open forum, while Atty. Ringon emphasized the importance of law students in advocating for justice and equality.
In her speech, Dr. Bahian emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in creating a society free from abuse. She urged students to be the catalyst for change, stressing the significance of sparking conversations, challenging harmful norms, and protecting vulnerable individuals.
The seminar aimed to foster a safe, inclusive campus community where abuse is rejected and the dignity of women and children is upheld, empowering students to be advocates for justice and equality. The event also sought to break the stigma of silence surrounding abuse, amplify the voices of the affected, and strengthen campus solidarity.
