In line with the Nurses’ Week Celebration, the School of Nursing (SON), under the leadership of Dean Prof. Marjo S. Malaban, organized free health services for the JHCSC community at the Pagadian Extension Campus. This initiative was spearheaded by the Nursing Student Body Organization (NSBO), led by its president, Mr. Mark Lee O. Gotuman, and was supervised by Ms. Johanezz Tabayag, RN.

With the theme “Championing the Welfare of Filipino Nurses Towards a Sustainable Nursing Workforce,” student nurses, in partnership with the school clinic, headed by Ms. Niko Marie Caseñas, RN., provided free vital sign assessments, CBG monitoring, and dental services on October 23, 2024, at the Nursing Lobby, Pagadian Campus.

On October 24, 2024, the NSBO organized a Blood Donation Drive in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross at the Skills Laboratory, Pagadian Extension Campus. This initiative is part of the Philippine Red Cross’ Blood Samaritan Project, which aims to assist indigent patients in need of blood transfusions. Dr. Rhaden Troy C. Gerali, RHP/DTTB from Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur, and Dr. Hannah Erlin G. Rota, RHP/DTTB from Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, both from the Provincial DOH Office of Zamboanga del Sur, were invited to lend their expertise in blood screening and bloodletting services.

More than 300 participants availed themselves of the free health services, and approximately 72 individuals actively supported the blood donation drive. This involvement included students from various academic programs, faculty, and staff from the JHCSC community. It was organized to recognize nurses’ dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment, embodying care as their core mission. By honoring their efforts, the event emphasized the importance of their role in safeguarding public health, demonstrating their indispensable service to society.
