To mark the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 1967 with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration, ASEAN Day is celebrated annually on August 8. J.H. Cerilles State College joined this celebration with a short program at the Main Campus Maceda Student Center, Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur, facilitated by the Internationalization and External Linkages Office spearheaded by Dr. Wendell Glenn P. Cagape.
This event gathered together College Key Officials, Faculty, Staff, and Students. JHCSC Employees wear ASEAN-inspired costumes, adding more meaning to the celebration with the theme ‘Connected & Resilient Community,’ focusing on historical milestones and future aspirations. August 8 is also a celebration of the one year of Dr. Rosales’s comeback tenure as the 6th President of JHCSC.
The event’s highlight was the ceremonial raising of the ASEAN member countries’ flags. President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, alongside other college officials, took part in this symbolic gesture, proudly hoisting the flags of the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Laos, Brunei, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia. This display underscored the college’s commitment to regional unity and cooperation.
In his address, Dr. Wendell Glenn P. Cagape emphasized the importance of the celebration, saying, “May our participation give us meaningful lessons to overcoming the challenges that lead to social transformation through our vision and active engagement in the world to understand our place better.”
As JHCSC joins in this year’s ASEAN Day Celebration, Dr. Rosales encouraged the college community, “May we reignite our interest in the potentials of our institution to meaningfully engage with other universities and research collaborations opportunities in the region,” he urged, underscoring JHCSC’s commitment to contributing to an inclusive ASEAN and being a resilient partner in regional development. -EMP
