The Western Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC) held a three-day training-workshop on visual communications from June 26–28, 2024, at the CT Boulevard Hotel, Zamboanga City.
Led by Mr. Cedrick C. Zabala from Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), the workshop covered design principles, graphic design tools, and the basics of Adobe Photoshop and Canva. Funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Research and Development (PCAARRD), the workshop aimed to enhance participants’ skills in creating effective Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.
Dr. Nelmie P. Ponio, faculty and program chair of the BS in Agriculture at J.H. Cerilles State College, won the Best IEC Material award for her innovative design techniques. The first runner-up was Mr. Jeron A. Elloran from DOST-IX, noted for his effective use of color blocking, and the second runner-up was Ms. Julianne Monique S. Benitez from WMSU-SERDAC, recognized for her storytelling technique.
Participants from various institutions, including NEDA-IX, ZSCMST, OCA-ZC, DA-BFAR IX, DA-RFO IX, PhilFIDA IX, PCA-ZRC, WMSU, JHCSC, SERDAC-WMSU, PRRI, and DOST-IX, received certificates of participation.
The workshop provided valuable skills in visual communications, and Dr. Ponio’s achievement highlights the dedication and talent within the J.H. Cerilles State College community.
