JHCSC President engage with the 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion for Values Formation and Safe Space Initiatives

Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur – September 22, 2023 – In a remarkable display of unity and collaboration, President Edgardo Rosales of JH Cerilles State College (JHCSC) engaged with the 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion, under the leadership of Lt. Col. Terence Yllanan, during a historic event at the 53rd IB headquarters in Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.

The warm reception and honors bestowed upon President Edgardo H. Rosales by the 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion underscored his unwavering commitment to fostering community development and peace. This engagement marked a significant stride in strengthening the bonds between the academic institution and the military as they work together toward shared objectives.

The event commenced with a welcoming ceremony, after which President Rosales and Lt. Col. Terence Yllanan led a conference to delve into JHCSC’s TABANGE Community Extension Program, aptly named “Project Good Life: Holistic Psychoeducation Program for Friends Rescued (Former Rebels).” This innovative initiative, in partnership with the Provincial Task Force ELCAC, led by Gov. Victor J. Yu, is designed for sustainability and is dedicated to offering comprehensive support to individuals who have embarked on the path of recovery from conflict, equipping them with the necessary tools to rebuild their lives.

In addition to their valuable contributions, the 53rd Infantry Battalion also presented their Youth Resiliency Program, designed as a preventive measure against youth radicalization. Recognizing the paramount significance of these initiatives, President Rosales pledged steadfast support from JHCSC, emphasizing the college’s dedication to working hand in hand with the 53rd IB to promote enduring peace and stability within the community. As a token of appreciation, the Battalion generously provided copies of two impactful books, “Beyond the Surface: Story of Resilience and Redemption,” authored by Moibe F. Olitres, Ph.D., and “Bihag,” authored by Col. Jo-ar Herrera, Leah Agonoy, and Marlon Magtira, which will be distributed among the libraries of the JHCSC System.

The event concluded with an atmosphere of enthusiasm and shared determination to maintain peace and order within the community through the collaborative efforts of both the military and the academic institution. This partnership between JH Cerilles State College and the 53rd Infantry “Matapat” Battalion holds great promise for the future as they join forces to create a safer and more prosperous environment for the people of Zamboanga del Sur.
Present also in the said activity are JHCSC Extension Director Mr. Ricky A. Egos, GAD Coordinator Dr. Trinidad C. Abapo, Research Coordinator Mr. Ruel S. Lasagas and Glendell I. Oyo-a from the PLGU of Zamboanga del Sur.
