J.H. Cerilles State College has produced an initial total of 200 3-D Printed and Laser Cut Face Shields and distributed them to those at the front lines of government efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) here in Zamboanga del Sur.
Department of Trade and Industry and J.H. Cerilles State College’s Fabrication Laboratory (FABLAB) Shared Service Facility in JHCSC Pagadian Annex utilized 3D printing and laser cutting machines, and computerized impressing machines which fabricated durable and efficient 3-D Printed Face Shield prototypes.
The 3-D printed and Laser Cut Face Shields are both sturdy and stylish. This were made of PLA (Polylactic acid) filament frame and acetate. Another version is the Medium Density Fiberboard Face Shields which both are reusable and easy to disinfect.
According to Mr. Joniel L. Calibo, JHCSC FABLAB Manager, as part of the institution’s mandate in serving the community in this time of crisis, JHCSC headed by President Mary Jocelyn V. Battung in support from the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension led by Dr. Vilma C. Grengia has made its part through its intensified fabrication of Face Shields.
“Our facility is open for all government and private entities for the fabrication of face shields given that they provide the raw materials. This include Polylactic acid (PLA)-(2.85 mm, 750 gram), PVC Cover (A4-300 210 mm X 297 mm), Medium Density Fiberboard (3mm/ 6 mm), and Garter (½ inch)”, he said.
President Mary Jocelyn V. Battung and JHCSC’s Private Sector Representative Dr. Reynaldo C. Ortiz personally handed over 200 protective shields to Chief of Hospital Dr. Anatalio E. Cagampang Jr. of Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center (ZDSMC) at the Provincial Government Center, Dao, Pagadian City on Mach 23, 2020. Present also in the turnover were the FABLAB Manager Joniel L. Calibo, DTI-ZDS Senior Trade Industry Development Specialist Mr. Elvis Q. Dablo, and DTI and JHCSC FABLAB’s workforce.
“We decided to do something in view of the reported lack of Face Shields throughout the province, and amid reports that when available, Face Shields are being sold overpriced. So, we are distributing this for free to those who are most at risk. In this way, they can continue performing their duties safely”, Pres. Mary Jocelyn V. Battung said in a statement.
Another batch of JHCSC FABLAB’s Protective Face Shields will be distributed these coming days to the front line Rural Health Units(RHUs) and Law Enforcers of COVID-19 all over the province.
