The J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) program participated in the 29th Mindanao-Wide Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Convention (ABECon, 2025) held from November 4 to 8, 2025, at the University of Southeastern Philippines – Tagum Campus, in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. The delegation was led by Engr. Johnren M. Siaboc, faculty member and coach of the BSABE program. The event carried the theme “Harmonizing ABE Pathways: Empowering Innovation Towards Sustainable and Smart Agri-Technology.”

The convention gathered over 1,000 participants from 16 state universities and colleges (SUCs) across Mindanao, including ABE students, professionals, educators, researchers, and industry partners. It aimed to promote innovation and sustainable solutions in agriculture and biosystems engineering, strengthen collaboration among institutions, and develop the skills of future engineers in addressing agricultural challenges.

During the five-day convention, JHCSC-SET ABE students competed in various events, earning second place in the Tractor Rodeo and the Engine, Tractor, and Machine Parts Identification competitions. The team also secured third place in the Surveying Challenge and sixth place in the Hataw ni Bayaw group competition, displaying their technical knowledge and teamwork.

In academic and design-related events, the students placed 4th in the CAD Challenge, 5th in GIS Mapping, and sixth place in the ABE Quiz Bee, Essay Writing, Pagsulat ng Sanaysay, and Extemporaneous Speech. These results reflected their strong understanding of ABE principles and effective application of both theoretical and practical skills.

JHCSC representatives also became finalists in the Mr. and Ms. PSABE-PPG Mindanao Island 2025, while other students won 1st Runner-Up in the COD-M Tournament, 2nd Runner-Up in Lawn Tennis, and fourth place in Badminton. Their active participation in both academic and extracurricular events underscored their versatility and dedication to holistic development.

The participation of JHCSC, led by its SET ABE program, in the 29th Mindanao-Wide ABE Convention 2025 underscored the institution’s ongoing commitment to programs that foster innovation, leadership, and technical excellence. Through these engagements, JHCSC reaffirms its commitment to producing skilled Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers who can contribute to sustainable agricultural advancement and community development in Mindanao.
