Five student researchers from the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC), Mr. Jovert Entervencion Logronio, Ms. Apryll Jane B. Sabuclalo, Ms. Sittie Lyka Hasim Palwa, Ms. Jennifer Cordova Tan, and Ms. Glenn C. Claro, showcased their academic work at Salindunong 2025: The 3rd International and 17th National Conference on the Filipino Language, Literature, and Research, held from October 22 to 24, 2025. With the theme โ€œBorders and Belonging: Language, Literature, Culture in Transnational Contexts,โ€ the conference brought together scholars, educators, and students to explore how language and literature shape identity, culture, and social connections in both local and global contexts.

Mr. Logronio presented his study, โ€œPag-ibig, Pangako, at Pagdurusa: Isang Romantikong Pagbasa sa Limang Awitin ni Regine Velasquez,โ€ which offered a romantic reading of selected songs by the renowned Filipino singer, analyzing themes of love, promise, and heartache. His research highlighted how popular music reflects the emotional experiences of everyday Filipinos and resonates with broader cultural narratives.

Ms. Sabuclalao shared her study, โ€œLakas at Luhang Hinubog ng Tinig: Isang Feministang Pagsusuri sa mga Piling Awit ni Yeng Constantino,โ€ a feminist analysis of selected songs by Yeng Constantino. Her research explored how the singerโ€™s music conveys empowerment, struggle, and emotional expression, reflecting the evolving role of womenโ€™s voices in contemporary Filipino culture.

Ms. Palwa presented her work, โ€œSosyolingguwistikong Pag-aaral sa Balbal: Epekto sa Komunikatibong Pagganap ng Kabataang Pilipino,โ€ examining how slang influences the communicative performance of Filipino youth. Ms. Tanโ€™s study, โ€œMga Salitang Pangnilalaman sa Piling Nobela,โ€ focused on content-specific vocabulary in selected novels, providing insight into language use and literary expression. Meanwhile, Ms. Claroโ€™s research, โ€œSuring Wika sa Musika: Isang Sosyolingguwistikong Pag-aaral sa Pormal na Wika sa Limang Piling Kanta ng mga Kontemporaryong OPM Artist (2021-2023),โ€ analyzed formal language in contemporary Original Pilipino Music, highlighting how linguistic choices shape meaning and audience reception.

The participation of these SGS student researchers highlighted JHCSCโ€™s commitment to fostering academic inquiry and cultural scholarship. Their studies not only explored the intersection of language, music, and literature but also contributed to ongoing conversations about Filipino identity, youth culture, and the social relevance of contemporary art forms. By presenting their research on a national and international stage, the students demonstrated the collegeโ€™s commitment to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and scholarly engagement among its students.
