J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) participated in the 1st National Research, Innovation, and Extension Summit (RIEX 2025) organized by the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) from October 22 to 24, 2025, at the University Closed Gym, Sumacab Campus. Representing the institution were Prof. Zenon Matos, Program Chair of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program from JHCSC Dumingag, and Mr. Jaafar Omar, MSCA, a faculty member of the BSIT program from the Pagadian Campus. With the theme “Empowering Futures: Advancing Research, Extension, and Innovation through Emerging Technologies,” the event expanded on the success of the 2024 Regional RIEX Expo, bringing it to a national platform that celebrated innovation, collaboration, and technological advancement.

A highlight of the summit was the recognition of Mr. Jaafar Omar, who won 1st Runner-Up in the National Robotics Competition. The award recognized his creativity, technical excellence, and dedication to innovation, showcasing JHCSC’s growing presence in the field of emerging technologies. His success served as a testament to the college’s commitment to promoting research-driven learning and fostering a culture of innovation among faculty and students.

The three-day event featured a series of fireside chats and knowledge-sharing sessions with national experts and innovators. On Day 1, the discussion on “The Future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Philippines” explored harnessing AI for sustainable and inclusive futures, covering topics such as smart cities, quantum computing, post-quantum cryptography, and the National AI Upskilling Roadmap. On Day 2, the session “Application of Blockchain in Different Sectors” explored how technological innovation drives real-world impact through DOST-ASTI’s future-focused projects, DICT’s e-governance initiatives, and the growing role of blockchain, cybersecurity, and smart networks in shaping the Philippine digital landscape.

RIEX 2025 brought together researchers, innovation managers, extension specialists, and technology experts from across the country to strengthen collaborative networks and explore the transformative role of technology in national development. The summit spotlighted advancements in Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Quantum Computing, E-Governance, and Cybersecurity, while also launching the National Robotics Competition and the CIO Council for the Education Sector in partnership with key government agencies.

Through its participation and achievement in the national summit, JHCSC reaffirmed its commitment to advancing research, innovation, and technology-driven education. The college continues to inspire its academic community to engage in initiatives that push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation, empowering futures and contributing to the nation’s progress in the digital era.
