The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES) and Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BSF) students, together with the faculty of the School of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Studies (SAFES) under the leadership of Dean Dr. Emelyn D. Tormes, participated in the Tree Planting Activity 2025 organized by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officeโ€“Provincial Local Government Unit of Zamboanga del Sur (PENRO-PLGU, ZDS). The activity was held on September 13, 2025, at Barangay Datagan, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur, as part of the celebration of the 73rd Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur.

Anchored on the theme โ€œHonoring our Roots, Shaping our Future,โ€ the event gathered various stakeholders and leaders of the province. Among the notable attendees were Hon. Divina Grace C. Yu, Provincial Governor of Zamboanga del Sur; Hon. John C. Regala, 2nd District Board Member; and Hon. Glendell I. Oyoa, JHCSC Alumni Trustee, who took part in the initiative, highlighting the shared commitment to environmental advocacy.

The participation of the SAFES community provided meaningful exposure to hands-on environmental activities that extend beyond classroom learning. It allowed students to develop a deeper awareness of pressing environmental issues, particularly conservation and forestry practices, while also instilling a sense of responsibility toward protecting natural resources.

Through this collective effort, the initiative underscored the importance of fostering environmental stewardship and sustainable practices within the community. It aimed to inspire long-term dedication among the youth and other participants in safeguarding the environment, ensuring that future generations inherit a greener and more resilient Zamboanga del Sur.
