The School of Engineering and Technology (SET), under the leadership of Dean Engr. Perla A. Rivera held a Hard Hat Installation and Pinning Ceremony on May 28, 2025, at the College Gymnasium in Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur. The ceremony was intended for the 3rd-year Engineering students who will undergo their OJT internship: 28 from the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program and 14 pioneering students from the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) program, joined by their proud parents.
The event, bearing the theme “Empowering Students through Real World Experience,” was graced by key college officials, including President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Resource Generation (VPRERG) Dr. Jerry B. Superales, and Campus Director Dr. Trinidad C. Abapo. Faculty members from the BSCE and BSABE programs also showed their support through their presence.
Engr. Rochel Janine A. Tañajora, a JHCSC Guipos Extension Campus alumna, Batch 2014, served as the guest speaker. She emphasized the importance of apprenticeship in preparing future engineers for real-world challenges. While acknowledging that excitement may be accompanied by fear, she reminded the aspiring apprentices that failure is part of success and encouraged them to enjoy their training period. She added that true success means earning a license and working in their field—goals that should be anchored in prayer. She concluded her message by sharing her life verse, Isaiah 16:20.
President Rosales and Dr. Abapo also delivered inspirational messages. Dr. Abapo highlighted that this ceremony honors the hard work of those brave enough to wear the hard hat and bear responsibility. Meanwhile, President Rosales commended the aspiring apprentices for their resilience and perseverance, noting that many are called to the engineering field, but few are chosen. “Dear parents, you are the witnesses of the hardships of your sons and daughters who were able to survive the different challenges in this particular profession,” he said, encouraging the parents to always support their children in reaching their dream of becoming engineers.
The Hard Hat Installation and Pinning Ceremony marks the success and victory of JHCSC’s future engineers. It symbolizes their readiness to apply their learning in real-world situations, representing the institution and becoming future leaders in their respective fields.
