The J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) successfully conducted the 1st Commencement Exercises for the Certificate of Agricultural Science on May 30, 2025, held at the Main Campus Gymnasium. With the theme โRecognizing Skills, Honoring Growth: Advancing Agricultural Excellence,โ the event celebrated the academic milestones and technical achievements of students under the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) program. The ceremony was spearheaded by Dr. Emelyn D. Tormes, Program Chair of Agriculture, under the leadership of Dr. Jerry B. Superales, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Resource Generation, and Dean of the School of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environmental Studies (SAFES), with the support of JHCSC President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales.
The milestone event was graced by institutional leaders, including Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) Dr. Vilma C. Grengia, Main Campus Director Dr. Trinidad C. Abapo, and Dumingag Campus Director Dr. Moises Glenn Tangalin, together with a few college deans, SAFES program chairs, faculty, and staff. Also in attendance was Engr. Samad B. Dibansa, TESDA Provincial Director of Zamboanga del Sur, served as the guest speaker. In his message, Engr. Dibansa emphasized that the agricultural science course is more than just a programโit is a platform for real impact. He shared that the field becomes most powerful and meaningful when everyone unites their skills, knowledge, and purpose to contribute to lasting development in communities and the agricultural sector.
A total of 293 second-year students were awarded certificatesโ133 from the Main Campus and 160 from the Dumingag Campus. This commencement marks the implementation of the revised BSA curriculum, which requires students to pass all academic subjects and obtain the National Certificate Level III (NC III) before advancing to the third year. Only those who met these academic and technical standards could participate in the commencement exercises. This system ensures that graduates are not only knowledgeable in agricultural science but are also nationally certified and practically equipped for the next phase of their academic journey and future careers.
This milestone affirms JHCSCโs commitment to quality tertiary education and agricultural excellence. As the institution continues to raise the bar for competency-based learning, the success of this inaugural commencement under the new curriculum reflects its mission to produce highly skilled, job-ready graduates who will contribute meaningfully to the agriculture sector and national development.
Soar high, J.H. Cerilles State College!
