The School of Business and Management (SBM) of J.H.Cerilles State College (JHCSC) officially launched and implemented its community extension service entitled “Skills Training to the Non-working and Indigent Citizens of Barangay White Beach” on December 20-21, 2024. This initiative is part of the Adopt-a-District Extension Program (ADEP) under the TABANGE Framework, a project spearheaded by Extension Director Prof. Ricky A. Egos and guided by the leadership of President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales. The training event was held at the JHCSC SBM Kitchen Laboratory and led by Project Leaders Ms. Maricar P. Rellon and Ms. Myrna V. Ceño, with the support of Dr. Julito V. Mandac, Jr., Dean of SBM.

The training engaged 30 non-working and indigent citizens from Barangay White Beach, Pagadian City. Faculty members from SBM and 4th-year Hospitality Management (HM) student researchers also participated in the event, providing a collaborative environment for knowledge-sharing and skills development.

The participants were guided in preparing a variety of products using ingredients commonly available in their locality. The dishes included Sasing Chocolate Bars, Bagongon Siomai, Sea Cucumber Cookies, Dilis Instant Noodles/Chicharon, Sea Hare Cupcakes, and Seaweed Waffles/Crackers. The hands-on training taught culinary skills and aimed to equip the beneficiaries with potential livelihood opportunities utilizing local resources.

During the event, Dr. Julito V. Mandac, Jr. welcomed the participants and expressed his commitment to providing all the necessary tools and equipment for the skills training. Prof. Ricky A. Egos, in his message, emphasized the importance of utilizing local resources for sustainable livelihoods, taking inspiration from the “farm-to-table” concept and encouraging participants to explore these opportunities for income generation.

After the training, many beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the program. They highlighted how the initiative could open new doors for livelihood opportunities, offering a chance for self-sufficiency and future growth. The project reflects the institution’s commitment to empowering communities and contributing to the economic development of Pagadian City.
