The Provincial Government Office of Zamboanga del Sur, led by Governor Victor J. Yu and with the support of 1st District Representative Hon. Divina Grace C. Yu and 2nd District Representative Hon. Jeyzel Victoria C. Yu, released educational assistance of 10,000 pesos each to 1,989 students displaced by the closure of JHCSC’s 16 extension campuses, on October 30, 2024, at Mega Gymnasium in Dao, Pagadian City.
This significant initiative aims to support students in navigating the challenges this transition brings. The event was attended by notable public figures, including Board Members Hon. Hernan “Nanding” Dela Cruz and Hon. Jun Ebarle, Hon. Glendell I. Oyo-a, Alumni Trustee and Provincial Government Office Representative, and Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, JHCSC President.
Pres. Rosales thanked the Yu Administration for their decisive initiative in financially supporting the displaced students and clarified that the extension campuses’ closure was not politically motivated but rather due to compliance issues with the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) required by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). He also expressed hope for JHCSC’s future transformation into a university, emphasizing the institution’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence.
This financial assistance marks a vital step in alleviating students’ hardships due to the closure of extension campuses. The proactive measures taken by the provincial government underscore their commitment to education and the well-being of students. As JHCSC navigates this transitional period, the support from local leaders highlights a collective effort to ensure that students remain on track in their educational journey.
