About

Republic Act No. 9159 entitled “An Act Converting the J.H. Cerilles Polytechnic College in the Municipality of San Miguel, Province of Zamboanga del Sur into a State College to be known as J.H. Cerilles State College, Appropriating Funds therefore and for other Purposes” paved the way for the creation of the JH Cerilles State College – School of Law.
Section 3 of the said act provides that “The College shall offer undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of education, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, engineering, industrial technologies, arts and sciences, and other degree courses as the Board of Trustees may deem necessary to carry out its objectives. It also offers opportunities in short-term technical or vocational courses within its areas of specialization to meet the needs of the province and the region.”
In response to this call for quality education, a meeting was held on February 23, 2005 in Zamboanga City and through Board Resolution No. 18 Series of 2005, the Board of Trustees headed by CHED Commissioner H.J.A. Luningning Misuarez-Umar, Ed.D unanimously approved to grant the opening of J.H. Cerilles State College, College of Law with Atty. Domingo T. Redelosa IV, the incoming Trustee at that time, as the designated Dean.
Under the leadership of Dean Redelosa IV, the School of Law was able to produce 46 passers from 2010 to 2023 Bar Examinations. In 2019, the Board of Trustees passed Board Resolution No. 064 entitled “A Resolution Approving the Conversion of the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree of J.H. Cerilles State College to Juris Doctor (JD) Graduate Degree Effective First Semester 2019-2020; and Conferring the Previous LLB Graduates of JH Cerilles State College as Juris Doctor Degree Holders.”
As one of the Legal Education Institutions (LEIs) which was established for a long time, the J.H. Cerilles State College – School of Law remains steadfast in its mission to produce quality and competent young lawyers who are ready to embark the less-travelled road of the legal profession. To date, the school has consistently performed well in the annual Bar examinations and has been compliant with the guidelines and requirements laid down by the Legal Education Board (LEB).
