In a continuing effort to promote and preserve Filipino cultural heritage through traditional dance, two faculty members from J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) participated in the 43rd National Folk Dance Workshop and Panuhid organized by the Samahang Tagapagtaguyod ng Katutubong Sayaw ng Pilipinas (STKSP), held from June 1 to 7, 2025, at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Mr. Joseph Salimbangon, Institutional Socio-Cultural Focal Person, and Mr. Jerwin Rey P. Alcoseba, Physical Education Instructor, represented JHCSC at the week-long event, which gathered dance educators, researchers, and advocates from various regions across the Philippines. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The workshop aims to enhance participants’ teaching skills in traditional Philippine and Asian dances, foster cultural competence through mastery of folk dance steps, and facilitate the exchange of relevant resources and research on folk and traditional dances in the country. It also seeks to address the challenges folk dancers, educators, and choreographers face. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The event also marked a significant milestone for the local delegation. The PFDS \u2013 Pagadian \u2013 Zamboanga del Sur Chapter was formally recognized as a local chapter member of the STKSP Foundation, Inc., valid from June 2025 to June 2026. STKSP President Rodel M. Fronda awarded the certificate during the culminating program.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

In a concurrent organizational election, faculty delegates from Pagadian were elected to key leadership positions within their local chapter. Mr. Joseph Salimbangon now serves as Vice President, while Mr. Jerwin Alcoseba holds the Secretary position.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Adding to the excitement, Mr. Alcoseba proudly clinched the Champion title in the 3rd Kind Dancesport Competition during the highly anticipated Delegates’ Night, where participants showcased their talent, creativity, and cultural pride in a spirited and colorful celebration.
\nThe week-long workshop enriched the participants’ teaching skills. It strengthened their commitment to cultural advocacy, ensuring that the vibrant legacy of Filipino folk dance continues to thrive in academic institutions and local communities.<\/div>\n
