The Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BSF) community of JHCSC commemorated its first-ever Forestry Day 2025 with the theme “Forestry in Action: Cultivating Skills, Knowledge and Sustainability” on April 26, 2025, at the JHCSC Main Campus Gymnasium in Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur. Spearheaded by the Forestry Student Organization (FSO) officers under the leadership of President Mr. Dio Labadan and with the guidance of FSO Adviser Mrs. Rovana Jawani-Ramoncito, the event sought to promote forest stewardship while fostering a more profound love for the forests among aspiring forestry professionals.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The celebration was attended by Dr. Jerry B. Superales, Dean of the School of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environmental Studies (SAFES) and Vice President for Research, Extension, and Resource Generation (VPRERG); Forester Nomar Ramoncito, BSF Program Chair; faculty members; staff; alumni; guests from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR); and students. Participants were grouped into five teams\u2014Dipterocarpaceae, Fabaceae, Lauraceae, Moraceae, and Euphorbiaceae\u2014with their names drawn from prominent families of forest trees.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Forester Allan Tac-an served as the keynote speaker, delivering an inspiring message emphasizing forests’ vital role in sustaining life and ecosystems. He shared his expertise and passion for forest conservation, highlighting the importance of promoting environmental sustainability and preserving forest resources for future generations.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Throughout the event, the teams competed in various contests designed to test technical proficiency, practical skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. While not all games were directly rooted in forestry fields, the activities fostered camaraderie and showcased the diverse capabilities of the participants. The Dipterocarpaceae team emerged as the overall champion, reflecting excellence in knowledge and collaboration across the competitions.<\/div>\n

The inaugural Forestry Day concluded successfully, leaving an indelible mark on the BSF community. Organizers expressed their sincere appreciation to all who contributed to the event’s success, underscoring that this milestone signifies a renewed commitment to cultivating skilled, knowledgeable, and passionate stewards of the nation’s forests.<\/div>\n
