J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) Main Campus showcased the KAMAISAN FESTIVAL, a Filipino heritage-inspired Thanksgiving celebration during the corn harvest season. This event marked the culmination of the National Arts Month Celebration with the theme \u2018Ani ng Sining, Diwa at Damdamin,\u2019 held on February 28, 2025, at the College Gymnasium in Mati, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur. <\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Corn holds significant cultural and agricultural value in the Philippines, and this festival was a tribute to its importance. Faculty, staff, and students from JHCSC Main Campus gathered to participate in this meaningful celebration. The event was spearheaded by Mr. Joseph B. Salimbangon, Culture and the Arts Director, with support from the JHCSC Main Campus Supreme Student Council, led by Governor Mr. Earl Ryan D. Siso. Additional support came from Hon. Cyrusdirk L. Elle, Supreme Student Federated Council President and Student Trustee, and Campus Director Mrs. Bemia Snooky A. Beboso.\n<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The event highlights included the Street Dance Parade by stations, performances by the Buswak Dance Ensemble, and the Kamaisan Festival Competition, with participants from three schools: the School of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environmental Studies (SAFES); the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), which dominated the competition by winning Street Dance, Festival Queen Showdown, and Ritual Dance; and the School of Engineering and Technology (SET), which secured victory in Artistic Videography.<\/div>\n

Winners of the Artistic Photography and Poster Making competitions were also awarded, with SAS emerging as the champion in both categories. In the overall ranking, the School of Teacher Education (STE) placed 4th, the School of Criminal Justice Education (SOCJE) secured 3rd place, SAFES took 2nd place, SET claimed 1st place, and SAS was declared the overall champion.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

February is not just a National Arts Month celebration but also a time to commemorate the EDSA People Power Anniversary. This historic peaceful uprising restored democracy in the Philippines after decades of dictatorship. During the event, a video presenting a brief history of EDSA was played, followed by a talk from a student of the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) about its lasting impact on the nation.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Under the visionary leadership of College President Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, JHCSC\u2019s first-ever month-long celebration paved the way for future initiatives that promote cultural awareness and artistic growth among students. The event left a meaningful impact\u2014encouraging the JHCSC community to continue embracing and celebrating the beauty of Filipino heritage and the arts.<\/div>\n
