The J.H. Cerilles State College, under the leadership of Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, a visionary and dynamic JHCSC President, hosted an Abaca Tuxy Demonstration on April 18, 2024, at the School of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Sciences (SAFES) Department, JHCSC Main Campus, Mati, Zamboanga del Sur.<\/div>\n
Mr. Bryan Thomas, CEO of Syntegral Global Solutions, and his group facilitated the demonstration, supported by other international figures such as Steve Anglicas, CEO of Strata Results from Australia, and Vance Abreu, Vice President of Strata Results for Asia Pacific.<\/div>\n
The esteemed individuals from various sectors joined Mr. Thoma’s group, including Kennedy Costales, an Abaca Expert and former Executive Director of PhilFIDA; Atty. Jord Valenton of MV Law Office and Dean of the College of Law at the University of Makati; Atty. Franklin del Castillo, the legal team for Syntegral, an associate lawyer at the MV Law Office, and Zamdiel Zacarias, the PHILFIDA Regional and BARM Director.<\/div>\n
The School of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Studies (SAFES) Faculty and Students, spearheaded by Dr. Jerry P. Superales, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Resource Generation (VPRERG) and designated SAFES dean along with Resource Generation Director Ruel S. Lasagas, were actively engaged in the event.<\/div>\n
President Rosales, in his message, stressed the importance of strengthening the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) like Syntegral Global Solutions. He stated, “This organization will be our partner in developing JHCSC. We have a great heart now that research, instruction, production, and extension of the RIPE framework are what we want to partner with Syntegral Global Solutions.”<\/div>\n
The program provided SAFES students with valuable insights on how to strip abaca tuxy accurately and efficiently using the tuxying manual machine. This method ensures minimal waste of abaca fiber compared to the traditional way of using a stripping knife. Additionally, the program sought to motivate students to venture into abaca farming.<\/div>\n
According to Mr. Kennedy Costales, Abaca Tuxy is a matter of proper extraction to produce first-class fiber. This process could double or triple the farmer’s profit.<\/div>\n
President Rosales concluded the event by promising more workshops focusing on abaca planting, coconut farming, and ube farming in reflection of the college’s commitment to comprehensive agricultural education and to create the framework for future partnerships and projects in the sector.<\/div>\n
