J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) proudly celebrates a remarkable research achievement as Dr. Starr Clyde L. Sebial, Dean of the School of Teacher Education (STE), joins a team of researchers from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in co-authoring a paper published in the Q1 Scopus-indexed journal Disciplinary and Interdisciplinary Science Education Research (Springer, 2025). The publication, titled \u201cIntegrating AI in STEM Education: Exploring Future STEM Competencies of Pre-Service Science Teachers in the Philippines,\u201d highlights JHCSC\u2019s growing involvement in high-impact international research addressing 21st-century educational challenges.\n<\/div>\n

The study investigates how artificial intelligence (AI), ethical literacy, creativity, digital skills, and resilience shape the future competencies of pre-service science teachers in the Philippines. Published in one of the world\u2019s leading education journals known for its rigorous standards and global readership, the paper emphasizes the growing importance of integrating emerging technologies in teacher education to prepare globally competent and future-ready educators.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Utilizing a quantitative research design, the study surveyed 444 pre-service science teachers from five SUCs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Guided by the Philippine Skills Framework, it employed validated instruments to assess competencies such as AI integration, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. Findings revealed that creativity, innovation, resilience, and ethical awareness significantly contribute to fostering leadership and collaboration among future teachers. At the same time, AI integration remains a developing but crucial component in the nation\u2019s STEM education landscape.<\/div>\n

This achievement strengthens JHCSC\u2019s reputation as a center of academic excellence and research innovation. The publication highlights the institution\u2019s commitment to advancing teacher education, promoting innovative practices, and equipping educators to meet the challenges of 21st-century learning, ultimately benefiting both the school and the broader educational community.<\/div>\n
