Faculty members from the School of Teacher Education (STE) of J.H. Cerilles State College (JHCSC) Dumingag Campus, Dr. Marjorey C. Cabigas, Prof. Harvey M. Tangalin, MAEd, and Prof. Darlin Jane T. Balbastro, MAEd, represented the institution at Salindunong 2025: The 3rd International and 17th National Conference on the Filipino Language, Literature, and Research held from October 22 to 24, 2025. With the theme \u201cBorders and Belonging: Language, Literature, Culture in Transnational Contexts,\u201d the event brought together educators, scholars, and researchers from across the country and abroad to explore the evolving role of language and culture in shaping identity and belonging in a globalized world.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Dr. Cabigas presented her study, \u201cUnravelling the Cultural Relevance of the Subanen through the Lens of Folk Narratives,\u201d which delved into the rich oral traditions of the Subanen people. Her research highlighted how folk stories serve as vessels of cultural wisdom, values, and identity for the indigenous community.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Prof. Tangalin, MAEd, shared his paper titled \u201cBeyond Forever: A Socio-Cultural Reading of Hello, Love, Goodbye and Contemporary OFW Narratives.\u201d Her study examined how modern Filipino films reflect the experiences, challenges, and aspirations of overseas Filipino workers, providing a deeper understanding of how cinema influences and shapes the collective national consciousness. Meanwhile, Prof. Balbastro, MAEd, presented her research, \u201cConstructing COVID-19 as Threat: Duterte\u2019s Securitization of COVID-19 in His First Public Speech During the COVID-19 Outbreak in the Philippines,\u201d which analyzed the language used by political leaders in framing the pandemic as a national security issue.<\/div>\n

Through their participation, the STE faculty members of JHCSC showcased the institution\u2019s growing commitment to research excellence and intellectual engagement. Their work not only amplified the voices and stories of Filipinos but also contributed valuable insights to national and international academic discussions. By bridging local realities with global perspectives, their studies underscored the vital role of education and research in fostering understanding, empathy, and cultural pride.<\/div>\n
