JH Cerilles State Colleges (JHCSC) was declared champion in the recently concluded Mindanao Association of Tertiary Schools (MASTS) quiz bowl held at Zamboanga City School of Marine Science and Technology (ZCSMST), Fort Pilar, Zamboanga City last November 9-12, 2017.
Four students from the School of Teacher Education represented JHCSC to the said event. They were Mr. Jade Pepito (BSED III – General Science), Miss Aimee Jean Buco (BSED IV – English), Miss Lyn Mae Evangelista (BSED IV – English), and Mr. Kenley Lumpayao (BSED IV – General Science). The four went through rigid preparations for the said contest. They would begin their review sessions after school hours, about 5pm to 7pm during weekdays and 8am to 5pm and beyond during weekends. They were mentored by no less than one of the best instructor of JHCSC, Dr. Nimshe M. Pastrano.
More or less 14 state universities and colleges (SUCs) including the likes of Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST), Central Mindanao University (CMU), Bukidnon State University (BUKSU), Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), and Mindanao State University (MSU) participated in the said event. But it was JHCSC that went home as the victor. Tagging behind are Jose Rizal Memorial State University, Dipolog for second place and Central Mindanao University, Bukidnon for third place.
As the champion, they were to represent the whole region for the national level of the said quiz bowl which will be held on November 29, 2017 at Negros Oriental State University, Negros. The four candidates are now prepping and mustering all their needed energy for the upcoming battle.
